Partnership for Recovery: Supporting Vietnam during COVID-19
IN BRIEF
Aus4Transport continues to be a key element of the Vietnam COVID-19 Development Response Plan put in place by the Government of Australia in response to the global pandemic. The Plan aims to provide Vietnam with the most effective assistance, maximising its recovery efforts and minimising economic and social impact.
As a strategic partner, Australia is strongly committed to supporting Vietnam to strengthen health security, ensure political and social stability and focus on economic recovery. With these important goals in mind, Aus4Transport has adapted its ongoing work to better respond to the new challenges posed by COVID-19, and it is currently exploring, together with MOT and other partners, potential activities that will help Vietnam to continue with its economic recovery and ensure the most vulnerable groups are protected.

Australia and Vietnam share a vision of a strong, wealthy and socially responsible region. They are connected through economic strategic partnerships that support jobs, growth and recovery for both countries, while keeping a strong focus on potential threats, such as an increase of inequality within regions or across vulnerable groups.
Despite the impressive response of Vietnam in front of the critical challenges posed by COVID-19, the global pandemic has had a serious economic and social impact in the country, challenges Vietnam to continue to effectively prioritise health security, while supporting economic growth.
In its partnership with the Ministry of Transport in Vietnam, Aus4Transport has also been affected by the COVID-19 outbreak, causing delays to activity timelines and making it challenging to mobilise international expertise. The Program has been flexible and has successfully overcome the challenges, and it is already considering the most effective way to channel its financial and technical assistance to best contribute to Vietnam’s recovery efforts.
The two largest engineering activities of Aus4Transport are providing shovel-ready projects that will improve local, provincial and regional economies, by creating jobs and opening opportunities for trade. They will bring public and private investment during and after construction and also contribute to guarantee health security by providing easier access to healthcare facilities.
Aus4Transport will continue to mainstream Gender and Social Inclusion across all its activities, actively advocating for women, ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups who have been disproportionally affected by the pandemic.
