Independent team’s review recommends up to 5-year extension for Aus4Transport
IN BRIEF
The independent Mid-Term Review (MTR), initiated by DFAT in October 2020 to evaluate Aus4Transport’s progress and relevance, concluded that a Program extension of up to 5 years would be highly beneficial, as it will provide Vietnam with the extra support needed to continue positioning its transport infrastructure sector towards international standards.
After a learning period, the Program is now running smoothly and making an important contribution to the development of Vietnam’s transport infrastructure. Activities are progressing successfully, and the parties are committed and enthusiastic about the opportunities for change and growth that Aus4Transport is bringing.

Supporting Vietnam in its transport infrastructure development, as a key to promote economic growth and reduce poverty, is a high priority clearly defined in the partnership between Australia and Vietnam.
An independent review team tasked to asses Aus4Transport’s progress, confirmed that the Program remains relevant and it is working effectively by introducing progressive change. The Review Team strongly recommended to extend the Program into a second phase, so that Australia can continue to support Vietnam’s efforts to develop an improved transport infrastructure sector that is attractive to investors and valuable to its citizens.
Drawing from the lessons learnt after these three years of partnership, Phase II of Aus4Transport would need to reconsider the present objectives, adjust resources and redefine outcomes, to better respond to the current context.
