Happy Birthday to Aus4Transport!
On 26 February 2021, Aus4Transport celebrated 3 years of operations. The results up to date of the Australian funded transport infrastructure initiative in Vietnam are encouraging, and the future looks bright for more success to come.
Aus4Transport is an AUD30 million-grant development assistance program from Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to support the Ministry of Transport in Vietnam (MOT). Functioning in true partnership, MOT, DFAT and Aus4Transport have been working hard to achieve the Program’s goal: support the development of Vietnam’s transport sector. By assisting the Government of Vietnam to enhance the quality of its transport infrastructure, the Program will contribute, in the long-term, to increase economic growth, reduce poverty and establish a safer and more inclusive society.
After three years of operation, we have faced some minor bumps, but have enjoyed many more successes. On its third anniversary, Aus4Transport is happy to announce that the detailed designs for two civil works packages (34Km) in the Central Highlands Connectivity Improvement Project have been approved, and the new contractor will be ready to start construction very soon under MOT’s management. The project will assist Vietnam’s financial recovery by providing economic opportunities for local companies and communities.
In addition, Aus4Transport continues to partner with MOT agencies on seven ongoing activities. AUD11 million and counting have already been invested and Vice Minister of Transport H.E. Nguyen Ngoc Dong has shown in several occasions his strong commitment to the Program. A recent independent review confirmed Aus4Transport positive progress and relevance and recommended an extension of up to 5 years.
