Aus4Transport joins the 6th UN Global Road Safety Week.
IN BRIEF
Did you know that Vietnam ranks as the second country in South East Asia with more people losing their lives on the road?
Recent data shows that Vietnam has an alarming average of 8,000 casualties every year from road crash accidents, with 1 person dying or getting injured every minute.
Even though road accident-related deaths have been consistently decreasing in Vietnam since the Government introduced more strict measures to enforce the use of helmets for all motorcycle users, including children, and prevent people from driving under the influence of alcohol, it is estimated that road crashes in 2021 will still cost Vietnam approximately 7,000 lives and 10 billion USD (230 VND trillion).
Why #Love30?
Evidence from around the world shows that low speed streets have a direct impact on saving lives and reducing the risk of serious injuries. Statistics demonstrate that the chance of survival increases up to 90% if a road crash happens at 30Km/h or less. In Vietnam, speed has always been one of the main causes of death in road accidents. Through the #Streets for Life #Love30 campaign, Aus4transport is helping to raise awareness of the importance of safe, low speed streets, that allow for healthy, green, and livable cities, encouraging people to walk and cycle.
30 km/h streets also protect all who use them, especially the most vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians, cyclists, children, older people and people with disabilities. Lower speeds also dramatically reduce polluting emissions, making the air we breathe healthier and protecting the environment.
Do you#Love30?
Would you like to contribute to saving lives, helping the economy grow, preventing broken families because of avoidable deaths, safeguarding the environment, and helping Vietnam protect its future generations? Then, you do #Love30. Take action today, tomorrow and every day. Spread the word. Every single person counts, every single action helps Vietnam to get closer to a sustainable future.
