Vietnam’s Traditional Day of the Transport Sector: 76 years building the nation’s backbone
IN BRIEF
It was 76 years ago, the 28th of August of 1945, when H.E. President Ho Chi Minh officially signed the decision to establish the Ministry of Public Works and Transport. Since then, over more than seven decades, officials at the Ministry of Transport have been extremely devoted and committed to building Vietnam’s backbone: a comprehensive and reliable transport network that would support the Vietnamese determined spirit and accompany the nation on an ambitious path, leading the country to prosperous social and economic development.
Aus4Transport, the transport infrastructure partnership between the Government of Australia and the Government of Vietnam, would like to congratulate MOT on its 76th anniversary and highlight the admirable task that the organisation is undertaking.

Vietnam’s accelerated development of supporting economic infrastructure, including transport infrastructure, enabled a rapid increase in the mobility of people and goods, and granted the rural population with improved access to essential services, such as health, education and economic opportunities.
Currently, Vietnam has more than 400,000km of road network, 17,000 km of navigable inland waterways, 45 seaports (of which 2 are international gateway ports), 22 airports and 2,600km of railway network. This remarkable development in transport infrastructure has been key to mitigating poverty and promoting growth over recent last decades, positioning Vietnam as one of the fastest-growing economies in Asia.
Aus4Transport is proud to be a small but significant part of this development, having the privilege to work closely with the Ministry of Transport through a true partnership and helping to bring numerous social and economic benefits to Vietnam. We would like to encourage all the officials at the Ministry of Transport to continue their vital task, and hope that Aus4Transport will be able to extend its support and witness even more success to come.
