The first civil works contracts for the upgrade of NH19 expected to be awarded in June
IN BRIEF
The contracts to start physical works for the two priority packages of the Central Highlands Connectivity Improvement Project (CHCIP) are expected to be signed in June, allowing construction to commence in the third quarter of this year.
The Detailed Engineering Designs of four non-priority packages have already been completed and were approved by the Ministry of Transport during the second half of May. The two remaining packages are scheduled to be finalised in the early days of June, with this milestone marking the completion of Aus4Transport’s contribution to this major project.

The Government of Australia, through the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs, in its partnership with the Ministry of Transport to support the development of Vietnam’s transport sector, has funded the Detailed Engineering Design and Documentation for the upgrade of 150 km of National Highway 19 (NH19).
The upgrade of NH19 is a high priority for the Vietnamese Government, as it will boost inclusive socio-economic development in the area and strengthen the Trans-Asian Highway. It is expected that, by promoting trade and improving transport connectivity and logistic services, the new road will contribute to alleviate poverty and promote equality and inclusion of marginalised groups. The Project will also focus on providing a more environmentally sustainable and climate resilient road, reducing the risks posed by potential storms, floods and landslides.
National Government, regional authorities and local residents are looking forward to seeing the benefits brought by the upgraded road and are grateful to the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and the World Bank (WB) for making it possible.
